I am going to write a paper about becoming a drug and alcohol counselor. The controversy that I will discuss will be aimed toward the high percentage of addicts and alcoholics that are unable to recover. Why join a field that has such a small percentage of actual recovery? I feel very strongly about this field because without the help of the counselors from Serenity Knolls I would not be here today. There are many different kinds of drug and alcohol treatment centers. A good drug and alcohol counselor in my opinion is someone with personal experience and success in their personal recovery. I plan on interviewing at least one staff member from Serenity Knolls. I am an alumni member and will also be able to interview other alumni. There are many books on recovery. Finding factual information on statistics of recovery will be easy. Becoming a drug and alcohol counselor is not to be taken lightly. The rewards from this career are great. That downside of this career choice is the constant exposure to horrible life choices and the wreckage created by the abuse of drugs and alcohol.

ReplyDeleteIn writing this paper I hope to learn more about whether or not this is a career that I would like to continue pursuing. I have been changing my mind about my career path quite a bit lately. I am currently volunteering the Hospice of the Pines. I have completed my C.N.A class and am waiting for approval so that I can receive my C.N.A certification. Because of my background history I am being investigated. As I continue to take pre nursing classes I am learning that I do not wish to be physically hands on with patients. This is why I hope to explore and gain further knowledge into the field of drug and alcohol counseling. After completing this assignment I will be better prepared to make my decision on whether or not this is the field I wish to pursue.
